Della Rounick - The Artist

Della was born in Veria, Greece (Birthplace of Alexander the Great). At a young age, she developed her painting talent, which led her to study privately with a well known artist in her hometown. In high school, Della entered a watercolor and landscape competition which included students from all over Northern Greece. She won First Price...that's where it all began.

Before making the U.S. her new home, Della spent time in France studying Psychology, Literature, and Philosophy. After her schooling, she traveled to South Africa and was discovered by The Wilhemina Model Agency, and began modeling all over the world.

However, Della missed having time to paint. She moved to New York, and began studying under modern art teachers, Richard Pousette D'Art and Bruce Dorfmann for four years at the New York Art Students League. Della was essentially left alone to create her own works. She was noted for the strong subliminal meaning of her paintings and was given the nickname "warehouse of ideas" by fellow students and teachers. Della also took intensive classes in "faux finishes" at the Elizabeth O'Neil Foundation in Palm Beach.

In 1993 Della began preparing for a one woman show, but the death of her husband put things on hold. She still kept on painting, primarily at her studio in Palm Beach. In 1997 she was asked to donate one of her paintings for an auction to benefit AIDS research.

The charity flew to New York where they picked a painting from her studio in the city. In attendance was one of the heads of AmFAR. It was suggested doing a whole show around a collection where proceeds would go to AmFAR. Della's career as a full time artist began at this juncture. The Hermaphrodites appeared for a two-week run at the New World Arts Center in 1997.

Della is working on a new series which has a powerful new subliminal message. Della works only with oils and executes with a small brush.
